This can include creating a hearth for warmth and nourishment, a pitcher for carrying water, a basket for collecting items, or a blanket for swaddling.
Artistry is where technique and devotion come together.
Artistry is a moment when the practice teaches the artist.
Artistry is a time when the work works on the artist, and the artist responds.
Artistry is when the formless finds its form.
Artistry is when the maker and the mystery merge.
Often, when we think of a work of art, we envision the final product. However, how do we engage with all aspects of the creative process? More importantly, how do we know which direction to move toward, lean into, or bow to while in the process? Through unique, simple, playful, and profound creative practices, we will explore the questions surrounding artistry: what it is, where it exists, when it manifests, and how we can connect with this powerful force.
In this 10-week journey, we will approach our creative practice like a daily ritual, a meditation, or a beloved partner. We will embrace the concept of duende—the passion that drives us to create—and honor the work that is required to trust the desires of the soul—to make, to express, to share.
This exploration is a tribute to the profound wisdom of our bodies and the work of our hands. It is a journey into the creative unknown—the liminal space between what is known and what is yet to be discovered. You are invited to rediscover the incredible power of your hands to create, innovate, and explore the world around you, while delving into the depths of your artistic soul.
Over the course of these ten weeks, we will celebrate the unique wisdom of our bodies and the active role of our hands.
